September 15 Telc

More to come....

Armoury with armour dated from the 15th and 16th century and weapons from the 17th century. We also saw weapons confiscated from poachers displayed. Some were "home made".

The dance hall. The wood was original from the 16th century. We were not allowed to walk on it. The carpet was laid down, not fixed.

Ok, well that wasn't too smart. I FORGOT to do a blog post last night!

We actually had a couple of hours where the rain let up and we were able to go for a walk without getting soaked. But wait, THERE'S MORE! One of the things that has made the weather so miserable is the wind: even though the hotel provided umbrellas we were concerned that the wind would flip them inside out and that we would end up catching gallons of water over our heads with it ultimately dumping on us, so we have largely ignored them.

On our walk, we stopped in at the Telc Castle, which is conveniently right across the square from where we are staying. I'm going to post the pictures now and to do some history tonight since we need to think about getting on the road. I will add this though: we took a tour of the castle, which was supposed to be conducted in Czech however, we were the only ones on the tour so our guide gave us the tour in English, which at times was still difficult to understand.  But the best part was that he allowed us to take pictures, which is otherwise not allowed. He just said no flash and if we see anybody else, to put our cameras away.

The original gothic Telc Castle was built in 1353 and then renovated in 1550 in the Renaissance style and adorned with Italian art. Many aspects of the castle reflect that to this day.

The Telc town square. Really quite beautiful.

Many thanks to our friends and family who have reached out to us about the flooding in the area. We are safe and not feeling threatened, if only miserable.  We are just hoping that the beautiful cities and all the locals are not subjected to their homes, businesses and historic landmarks bei g flooded. You may recall from earlier blog posts seeing the high water marks from historic floods. I don't think this weather is so unique to the area.
